Admit it ladies, you tend to overlook the geek. He’s most likely rocking a pair of glasses and a collared button-down shirt while he’s reading a textbook on quantum physics. Sure, he might be a bit of a nerd: a little socially inept, a tad fashion impaired. He might drink a little too much Mountain Dew and might be a little too into World of Warcraft, but what if I told you he could be the best boyfriend you’ve ever had?
A geeky boyfriend will always put your feelings first. He might seem socially awkward and a little hard to understand behind all that technological mumbo-jumbo, but a geeky guy – usually sweet, sensitive, and loyal – has a big heart. Geeks are usually the butt of jokes from other guys and since, chances are, your geek has probably been made fun of before, he knows what it’s like to be hurt and would never intentionally hurt your feelings. Also, geeks don’t have the obnoxious egos other guys have, so he won’t be afraid to show his sensitive side.
A geeky boyfriend doesn’t cheat. Your geeky guy will probably wonder how he was lucky enough to get a hottie like you in the first place, so he’s definitely not going to do anything to jeopardize the relationship. You won’t have to worry much about your geeky boyfriend checking out hotties at the club on a Friday night, because he’ll be more likely re-routing his wireless connection at home. When you date a geek, you can feel secure knowing he’s yours ‘til the end.
A geeky boyfriend is like having free tech-support. You could call the Geek Squad to get your Mac laptop rebooted… or you could call up your tech-savvy boyfriend to tweak it for free. In this tech-savvy world, it’s great to have a boyfriend who can fix your laptop, desktop, and just about anything else that plugs into an outlet. Also, chances are he knows which is the best free anti-virus program to install on your computer or the newest social networking site before it’s gotten big. Who knows? You could be dating the next Bill Gates!
A geeky boyfriend can do amazing things with their hands… and fingers. If you think about it, what do geeks do all day? They button-mash through video games, roll the dice in role-playing games, flip pages in books, and they type on keyboards, calculators, and handheld devices at super speeds. Bottom line, your geek knows how to use his hands and fingers. Don’t expect him to be fumbling around in that area: he knows how to push all the right buttons.
A geeky boyfriend is a true romantic. Geeks are more romantic than they’ve been given credit for. Ok, so maybe their idea of romance is a specially designed webpage with a poem reciting all the reasons why they love you hyper-linked to graphic of roses, but hey, isn’t it the thought that counts? Whereas the average guy might think it’s a pain in the butt to buy you roses, a geeky boyfriend will love to make you feel special.
A geeky boyfriend has big brains. Geeks are known for their high IQs and their big brains. But, would you be surprised to learn that it’s our brain – as all scientists all agree – that is the most important sexual organ. So, he might be a little inexperienced or lacking in a little self-confidence when it comes to certain things in the dating scene. His intelligence will make him a great lover and friend. You don’t need to be dating a NASA technician (although, if you are, don’t let me stop you), but dating someone who is well-read and well-educated goes a long way in a relationship.
A geeky boyfriend can concentrate. Geeks can focus their attention and energy on one task for hours. Granted, that may mean hunting orcs with the Sword of Mastery, but give him a Mountain Dew and he’s good to go on any mission. You’ll be sure that your geeky boyfriend will focus his full attention on you.
A geeky boyfriend has a vivid imagination. They say that a virgin wrote the Kama Sutra… all that time thinking about sex. But I would take a safe guess that he might have been a geek too. Geeks have great imaginations and although they might typically channel that creativity into writing Final Fantasy fan fiction or building elven villages, re-playability is important to a geek and this translates to your relationship. He won’t want to get bored with the relationship so by always keeping things new and exciting, consequently, neither will you. He’ll love being your knight-in-shining armor… even if it is just role-playing one in a game!
A geeky boyfriend won’t have obnoxious friends. Geeks are not exactly known to be social butterflies. You’re more likely to catch him holed away in his gaming room or in the basement hooked up to his multiple gadgets, but don’t let this deter you! Geeky guys, who value quality over quantity, usually hang out with a small, tightly-knit group of friends (virtual or otherwise). So come time when you meet his friends, you’re more likely to hang out with a few relatively down-to-earth guys rather than a pack of obnoxious bros.
A geeky boyfriend remembers the important things. Geeks are typically good problem solvers, video game players, and computer whizzes. So it should be no surprise that a geeky boyfriend will make you his latest field of expertise. Don’t be surprised if he researches your likes and dislikes, plans your dream vacation, remembers your birthday and buys you the perfect gift. With all that information at his disposal, it will be no wonder when a geek turns out to be your perfect boyfriend.
There are plenty of reasons why geeks make the best boyfriends, but don’t just take my word for it! Next time you find yourself single, maybe you’ll take a second look, not at the obviously handsome hunk in the room, but his dorkier, geekier, technologically-adept roommate.
