Twice a year, New York Fashion Week provides us with a week filled with amazing fashions. Whether we’re most interested in the celebs sitting front row, the trends, or the street style, fashion’s biggest week never fails to disappoint. On top of everything, NYFW in February has another aspect to pay close attention to: drop dead gorgeous Oscar-worthy gowns.
Fashionistas know that beyond the winner of Best Actor and Best Actress, red carpet fashion at the Oscars is the most important part of the show. Every other award show this season has just been leading up to this highly glamorous red carpet.
While watching various runway shows, I couldn’t help but pick out a few gowns that definitely deserve a red carpet moment…
J. Mendel’s FW 2012 collection was nothing short of perfection. He had numerous gowns that were Oscar-worthy, but this one is definitely my favorite. The green detailing makes the dress interesting but not too over-the-top. I could see a beautiful redhead like Emma Stone or Jessica Chastain wearing this.
Michael Kors never fails to deliver amazing looks. Angelina Jolie has been known to fancy his frocks and I think she’d look fabulous in this sparkly red number. The open back takes the dress to the next level.
There were a lot of gold gowns shown at NYFW, each one more beautiful than the next. Here we have three dresses by Prabal Gurung, Naeem Khan, and Ralph Lauren. How gorgeous would Rooney Mara look in gold on the red carpet?
Dennis Basso’s collection had some great color and detailing. Minus the fur vest, I think this sheer, long-sleeved navy gown would look so chic on Michelle Williams. Her pixie cut would allow the beaded detail on this gown to shine.
There is always at least one leading lady wearing Marchesa on the red carpet. As a whole, Marchesa’s FW 2012 collection screams “Oscars!” I think it’s very likely that we’ll see one of these princess gowns on someone this Sunday evening. Stacy Keibler, George Clooney’s arm candy, sat front row at the Marchesa show. Perhaps she was Oscar dress shopping?
What gowns from NYFW do you think have the ability to make the Oscars best-dressed list?
The Oscars airs Sunday, February 26th at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC!
