Seattle has given us a lot of things (hello Starbucks), and now we are ever-so-thankful for the fashionable Seattle-based fashion blogger Mollie Ruiz Parker of Mollie in Seattle. Blogging about everything fashion, Mollie chats with Love Twenty about her fashion must-haves, life as a social media pro, and of course her Seattle favorites.
How did Mollie in Seattle Start?
My blog was born in January of 2010. It really began as a diary for me really — I’d just write about things I loved. Whether it’s products, clothes, shoes or food, I loved to write and sharing the things I enjoyed with others was something I’d always wanted to do. Since its birth, “Mollie in Seattle” has been through a couple versions of design and I’ve really found what I love writing about most is fashion and how others can give back by way of fashion.
What are your fashion must-haves?
Gosh there are so many! I would say a few things that I absolutely cannot live without would be my red J. Brand skinny jeans, a good denim shirt, my Tory Burch flats and Warby Parker glasses.
What is the greatest success for “Mollie in Seattle”?
I’m always working and doing my best to learn new things, but I think my most exciting moment as far as my blog is concerned was getting to meet and interview designer Monique Lhuillier. Visiting with her about her passion and love for design was truly inspiring.
How has working for a social media director for The Finest Accessories Inc. shaped your career?
Getting to work in fashion is really exciting. It’s my job to help our company stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the fashion realm, whether that’s talking about the season’s latest trends, what’s going to be hot for fall/winter, or simply making sure our customers are happy with our products. I feel fortunate that I wake up every day excited to go to work!
What hair accessory trends have you been noticing for spring/summer 2012?
Hair accessory trends I’ve been noticing… we saw a lot of hair turbans on spring runways at fashion week back in September as well as polished ponytails and beautiful embellished updos. My favorite hair accessory trend has to be the turban though — its glamorous and very elegant.
You’re most happy when….
I’m most happy when I’m surrounded by close friends and family!
What does it mean to be fashionable?
Being fashionable really is all about your attitude and being happy with the person you are. We all have different likes and interests and I feel that you’re fashionable when you’re comfortable in the clothes that you wear. It’s all about expressing your personal style and loving what makes you unique.
You’ve been at New York Fashion Week and other exciting fashionable
experiences, so what has that experience been like for you?
New York Fashion Week is an exciting time of fashion and inspiration for sure. When it comes around in February and in September, I’m giddy and excited like a kid in a candy store. I’m always excited to attend events and conferences where I have the opportunity to meet other like-minded people who share the same interests and passions as I do.
What’s your best advice for fashion bloggers right now at the moment?
My advice would be to really think about what you’re passionate about, what matters to you, and what message you want to get across to others. Stick to it and when you’re passionate about something and enjoying what you’re doing, others will quickly take notice and success will follow.
What are some of your favorite Seattle hot spots?
Besides Starbucks of course, I love eating out with friends at RN74, spending time down on the Seattle waterfront, enjoying wine with friends in Woodinville, and walking around Pike Place Market.
