First of all, I can’t believe it’s already October. The leaves are gorgeous, I can finally wear boots and over-sized, comfy sweaters again, and the weather couldn’t be more perfect for cuddling up and watching a movie. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is by far my favorite season. And, with the best season ever comes the best new fashion finds, delicious snacks, gorgeous fall shades of makeup, and of course some essentials for around the home! Here are some of my absolutely favorites for fall.
I can’t get enough sweaters for fall. When I went to Target and eyed this striped crew neck sweater, I knew I was done for. I’m a sucker for stripes, and for $20, you really can’t go wrong. If you like your sweaters baggy, make sure to size up because this sweater is made to be form-fitting! I usually wear a medium and I grabbed an x-large for the perfect, comfy fit.
Another fashion trend I’m obsessed with in fall is wearing infinity scarves! They’re so warm and I don’t have to hassle with trying to tie it so it looks good — it automatically does! This gray marled scarf from Target is $20 and super cute, but if you really want to go all out this fall, head over to YouTube and learn how to knit yourself! You can make as many scarves as you want and it will only take hours once you master it.
Ahh, the boots. I love boots. SO much. My gray and black boots are great, but this year I added a new boot to my collection — the brown riding boot. You can find riding boots almost anywhere for as low as $30. Pair them with some skinny jeans and any outfit will instantly turn fab.
Fall lines of makeup are always full of such rich, pretty colors, and this season can definitely give any other line a run for its money. I’ve been loving Maybelline’s “Scene on the Runway” Limited Edition Color Tattoo Eyeshadows. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a lot of the shades in drugstores in my area, but if you have a CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid near you, definitely check them out. They literally DO last 24 hours and are hard to get off without a makeup remover. (That’s a good thing!)
For lips, I’ve always been a huge fan of Blistex’s Medicated Mint Balm, which always gets rid of my chapped lips when the cold weather rolls around. I’ve also recently discovered Nivea’s Milk & Honey lip balm, which is so moisturizing and leaves my lips incredibly soft.
Even though it’s fall, I still love having a nice summer glow. And, as white as I am, I haven’t found a drugstore bronzer better than NYC’s Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny. I’m a huge bronzer hoarder and have tried just about everything, but it seems like a lot of bronzers leave my light skin orange while this brand actually gives me a natural glow. The best part? It’s under $3.
I love nail polish, and Maybelline just came out with a line of new polishes for fall! After checking out the collection, my two favorites are complete opposite in the color range, but eye-catching either way. For a natural fall look, you can’t go wrong with Maybelline Color Show in Dressed to Kill, and if you’re looking for something that really pops, check out Maybelline Color Show in Tenacious Teal.
For hair, I just tried out Suave’s Rosemary + Mint Shampoo and Conditioner and think it’s fantastic. It really does compare to a lot of salon products quality-wise, and for under $4 for both, it’ll make your bank account very happy.
I’ve also been using curling wands like crazy for the past 5 months or so and am in love. Creating celeb-worthy curls is so easy and quick — especially with the TIGI Bed Head Curlipops Wand. Gorgeous, piecey curls are definitely the secret to the perfect fall look.
I have a lot of random, non-beauty or fashion-related things I love for fall too, so of course I have to share! So, I’ll start with my absolute favorite thing — fall candles. I’m in love with the 3-wick candles from Bath & Body Works and could stand in the store and smell them all day long, but since I’m a broke college student, I can’t justify spending $20 on one candle. Luckily, I was in Walmart and came across their Mainstays 3-wick candle in Spiced Pumpkin. And, I was mind-blown. I took it home, lit it instantly, and my whole apartment smelled magical — for only $4! Score. They’re also the same size as the Bath & Body Works candles, so you can pick up one of their $8 candle holders and just stick the Walmart one in it.
As for caffeine, I’ve been loving TWININGS tea. When you add in a little milk and sugar, it tastes absolutely amazing. For coffee, I can’t get enough of Folgers Hazelnut! Add in a little sugar and half and half for the perfect combination.
For movies, I’ve always loved Love Actually and now that it’s getting closer to Christmas, I think it’s more socially acceptable for me to watch it over and over… even though that doesn’t ever stop me during the year. There’s never a bad time for cute British accents. Since it’s almost Halloween, I also love watching Hocus Pocus. It’s always on TV, and it brings back such great memories of watching it when I was younger. The witches are a little less scary now.
As for games, I always thought my friends were crazy for wanting to play a game where the main point is building settlements, roads, and trading sheep. So, after making fun of them for the past year, they finally talked me into playing Settlers of Catan, and I’m very sad to say that it’s actually awesome and I was completely wrong. So addicting. Then, there’s Scrabble. It’s such a classic, and all of you word nerds out there like me probably can’t get enough of it either.
Time for some tasty treats! One of my favorite snacks for fall are caramel apples. An easy way to get the same great taste as a fancy, legit caramel apple is to get an apple and some little caramels, then just take a bite of each. It’s delicious and super easy!
Another snack I love is eating Cinnamon Teddy Grahams and grapes together. Not necessarily putting them both in my mouth at the same time, but the cinnamony-grape taste is to-to-die for.
