There are nail tutorials and then there are ohmygodyouguys-this-is-EVERYTHING kind of nail tutorials. Those fabulous nail tutorials I just mentioned? Those would belong to Chelsea King, a.k.a. the nail art guru at Get Nailed. Indulging in our nail tutorial obsession in full-swing (trust me we’re obsessed!), we talked to the 19-year-old nail wizard about everything nails. I mean… we think it’s kind of awesome she’s named herself a nail whore.  Get ready to drool at her nail art, beauties!  Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.

L20: OK, we seriously adore you! We gotta ask… why did you choose to focus on nails?

CK: I have always loved to paint! I took a painting class in high school and I absolutely fell in love, but I would never have a canvas lying around to paint something. One day I just thought, I guess I could just paint things on my nails, and that’s how my nail art obsession began.

L20: There are literally millions of nail tutorials that are available at our fingertips, so what sets your nail tutorials apart from the rest?

CK: I think what sets my tutorials apart from the rest is that I try my best to keep it simple. I’ve seen tons of tutorials on designs that weren’t wearable and practical for everyday wear and just were really hard! I try to make my tutorials easy so anyone would be able to do the design.

L20: What has the response been like to your site, Get Nailed?

CK: I think the overall response has been amazing! I can honestly say I have the sweetest and nicest people who follow my site. It’s crazy to think there are people out there who I’ve inspired with my nail art! I originally started out as a little blog on Tumblr, but once I started creating tutorials, people started to become really interested in my site. People always laugh at the name, but I think the name Get Nailed is what makes my blog unique.

L20: What’s the toughest challenge you’ve faced when it comes to your fabulous nail tutorials?

CK: I think the toughest challenge is definitely finding time to do them. Even though my videos average around 4 or 5 minutes, it takes me a couple hours to film and edit (I mess up a lot!). Since I go to school full-time and have a part-time job, it’s difficult, but I do try my best to squeeze in time and try to come up with a tutorial that people would be interested in.

L20: Is beauty something you would like to make a career? Or is it strictly a hobby?

CK: To be honest, I have absolutely no idea! Currently it’s strictly a hobby, but I’m not counting it out as a career option. I plan to just finish college and then see where that takes me!

L20: What are some of your favorite go-to polishes?

CK: Currently I’ve been obsessed with Butter London Slapper. It’s a beautiful turquoise! I also love any and everything OPI and Orly. I’ve been using OPI Strawberry Margarita a lot!

L20:  We know you love nails… now tell us one thing most people don’t know about you.

CK: Something most people don’t know about me is that I’m ambidextrous, which definitely helps when it comes to painting my nails!

L20: What’s your favorite tutorial thus far?

CK: I think my favorite tutorial has been the Saran Wrap Nails. It’s a really easy design to do and people liked it because they were able to replicate it without having special nail art tools.

L20:  On those days when you give your nails a break, how do you  treat and get them back in tip-top shape?

CK: I usually buff them a little and then apply a strengthening polish to them. The OPI Nail Envy Line is amazing! Even though I love doing my nails, it’s important to give them a break every once in a while. Give them a couple days a week to breath and your nails will be back to tip-top shape in no time!
